Let’s continue with the weekly judo resources, and today we are looking at an essential skill: transitioning from tachi-waza to ne-waza.
A word from Nik
A perfect transition is one where you can’t see the joins! By this, I mean the movement flows from the moment your partner lands, quickly and smoothly, into the hold down. To build this skill:
Practice the full movement from standing through to the osaekomi using controlled Nage-Komi (throwing) drills.
During Randori, encourage all throws to be followed up with 10 seconds groundwork.
The teaching materials show Morote-Seoi-Nage into Tate-Shiho-Gatame, but any throws and hold downs can be used. For example:
