Kesa-Gatame. Just for beginners? Just for lightweights? No. And no, again. This is the hold down Anton Geesink used to win Olympic gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. Up against, history itself, Geesink became the first European to break the Japanese stronghold, and he did so holding his opponent down with Kesa-Gatame. This is a great osaekomi for anyone and everyone, juniors and seniors alike. As skills develop progress into learning Kuzure-Kesa-Gatame and Makura Kesa-Gatame.
