Hi! This week, we’re back to groundwork, and a hold down that Don Werner (my judo sensei) would make sure we practiced every week. I always thought it was a strange hold down, sort of back to front. Without further ado, here it is: Ushiro Kesa-Gatame.

Teaching Ushiro Kesa-Gatame

Ushiro Kesa-Gatame (reverse scarf hold) is a hold-down. Similar to Kesa-Gatame (scarf hold), but performed facing towards your partner’s legs instead of towards the head.
