Te-waza are throws where the hands play a central role. You can see the full category of techniques classified by the IJF as te-waza here. I’ve selected these six techniques to keep things practical and manageable, but there are 16 in total.

How to use the resources?

Study sheet

This is an A4, black and white page, with six throws illustrated. A visual reminder for your students to take home with them.

Which techniques?

  1. Morote Seoi-nage

  2. Tai-otoshi

  3. Ippon Seoi-nage

  4. Uki-otoshi

  5. Seoi-otoshi

  6. Sumi-otoshi

Te-waza Award Certificate

This is a high res, full colour, certificate that can be printed at A5 or A4. To award to judoka when they can do all six throws.

Want more resources around tachi-waza?

Here are two resources to use:

  1. “40 Judo Throws Learn How to Throw” Book Each technique is illustrated with a step by step guide, showing grip, entry, lift, rotation and finish. All 40 judo throws in the Gokyo are included in this 100-page book available to buy on the Koka Kids website at club rates.

  2. Judo Throws is an online resource, with each technique made it a simple animations. For example see hiza-guruma, or harai-goshi. Please do feel free to link to this resource directly from your club websites or socials:
