Drill: Speeding up your Spin-Entry & Improving Timing
Grab a crash pad.
Hi everyone! A fun drill to improve timing and ability to read your partner’s movement as you work on this spin-entry into attacks. Grab a crash pad (or just some space on the tatami) and grip up. Also works well with Uchi-mata, Harai-Goshi and Ashi-guruma.

You’ll find more drills, games and exercise like this one in the 10 Throws and 20 Drills Book. To learn throwing skills I’d recommend the: 40 Throws Book and 20 Combinations Advanced Judo book.
Tori (white) and Uke (blue) stand side on to the crash pad
Uke (blue) takes the initiative and moves in a fast half circle around uke
Tori (white) allows Uke (blue) to get to about 90 degrees then spins around into the attack. Uke should help tori with the movement.
Techniques that work well include Uchi-mata, Harai-goshi. Ashi-guruma, Hane-goshi, O-guruma etc.
