Let’s continue with the KK+ Technical resources, with one of my all time favourite combinations. Sumi-Gaeshi was my tokui-waza, and this is a great way of setting up for it: Ouchi-Gari to Sumi-Gaeshi.
An advanced combination because of the sutemi-waza, but really not difficult to do. Especially if you keep the following in mind.
Teaching points:
First, make sure uke is able to roll safely when attacked with Sumi-Gaeshi. This can be done by allowing uke to take the initiative and roll. To practice this tori can slowly fall back, place their foot against the inner thigh, but no more. Then it’s up to uke to roll over.
Ensure there is enough space around the judoka, as this throw needs movement in the lead up, and in the landing.
