Let’s continue with the KK+ Technical resources, with a drill to improve movement in groundwork and make it smoother and more controlled. This week we look at: How to change from one Osae-komi to another.

Use these drills to develop smooth, easy movement from one osaekomi into another

Beginners

  1. Start in Kesa-Gatame. On the Hajime command uke can try to escape, while tori releases the hold around the next and reaches under the arm to secure a Kuzure Kesa-Gatame.

Intermediates

  1. Start in Yoko-Shiho-Gatame. On the Hajime command uke begins to escape, while tori must move a quarter turn into Kami-Shiho-Gatame

Advanced

  1. Start in either hold and make the complete circle around the body, moving into at least four different hold downs, then finally ending up in the same hold down as started.
