Let’s continue with the KK+ Technical resources, and take a look at a drill for practicing upper-body control for the throw: Osoto-Gari.
A word from Nik
We can use drills to practice specific parts of a throw. Here we work on controlling our partner’s head and upper body.
Allow your partner to attack you, with Osoto-Gari, pushing you back, almost to the point of being thrown.
Without placing the foot on the tatami, regain balance.
Now, lift your partners leg, pushing your partner back almost to the point of begin thrown.
Allow your partner to regain balance and repeat.
Swing back and forth like a pendulum as you lose the control of the upper body and then regain it.
