Hello! I hope all is well with you, and your judo club is going from ippon to ippon.

Let’s continue with the KK+ Technical resources, and take a look at a throw that is often taught to beginners but is regularly used by world class fighters: Koshi-Guruma

A word from Nik

Koshi means “hip” and Guruma means “wheel.” The idea of this throw is to wheel your partner over your hip. Experiment throwing from two grips.

  1. Off the sleeve grip. Let go with the grip on the collar, grab around the neck and turn in for Koshi Guruma.

  2. Off the collar grip. Let go with the grip on the sleeve, grab around the neck and turn in for Koshi Guruma.

Please be aware the second grip is for advanced judoka, as uke is more likely to stick an arm out as they are thrown.

Every week, a new technique to teach!

Any questions? Contact me, Nik Fairbrother and let me know how I can help.
