Hello! And thank you for being here. I hope all is well with you.

Let’s continue with the weekly judo resources, and today we explore a highly effective combination: De-Ashi-Barai into Uchi-Mata.

A word from Nik

A great combination to encourage judoka to use their feet to set up.

The deashi-barai is used to change uke’s stance. It opens the angle up, and allows space to follow up with uchi-mata.

  1. This combination works well with right v left, or left v right postures, when uke is standing in an extreme diagonal stance, and using their posture to prevent being attacked with uchi-mata.

  2. Use the de-ashi-barai to force uke to retreat their forward foot.

  3. As uke moves backwards, they square up. Use the space created to turn in for uchi-mata.
