Hello! And thank you for being here. I hope all is well with you.
Let’s continue with the weekly judo resources, and today we delve into developing range and repertoire, and learning to throw in multiple directions.
For those of you on KK+ don’t forget you can access previous throws, holds, combinations and turnovers in the Teach Technique section.
A word from Nik
Being able to throw for ippon in one direction is excellent. Being able to throw for waza-ari in six directions is even better.
This is how I was taught by the legendary Don Werner, Sensei and to me it makes perfect sense. I think it can be detrimental to specialise too early on.
Developing a range of throws, in all major directions means you can always find the weak point of your opponent.
Eventually, over time, all the throws become stronger and stronger until you can throw for ippon in all six directions.
