Ippon-seoi-nage 🥋 Koka DRILLS
Building better bases: a simple drill for self-correcting foot positioning
A drill for improving foot placement
When a throw is properly aligned from feet through hips, shoulders, and head, it generates maximum power.
But it’s not as easy as it sounds.
When first teaching children ippon-seoi-nage, I noticed many struggled with foot placement. One foot pointed outwards, the other inwards, or both at strange angles … consequently they would be slightly off balance, the technique would start from a wobbly base.
And so, I developed this drill, I hope you find it useful.
From Wobbly to Winning: A Simple Drill for Foot Alignment
Setup Instructions:
1. Arrange two belts on the mat to serve as alignment guides.
2. Position uke standing with one foot placed on each belt.
3. Tori should then turn in for ippon-seoi-nage and stop.
