Let’s continue with the KK+ Technical resources, with a throw that helps build timing and movement, a good one to teach beginners: Step by Step Guide to Deashi-Barai

Build confidence, teamwork and timing with plenty of De-Ashi Barai uchikomi.

Level one:

  1. Start with Shadow Judo, allowing the judoka to go through the movement on their own, in their own time. Get them to sweep a bean bag along the mat.

Level two:

  1. Next begin simple, slow uchi-komi. Uke takes a small step forwards, placing their weight onto the foot as they step, yet allowing themselves to fall as tori sweeps their foot out. Build up the team work, as uke step and tori sweeps in unison, building up the rhythm and timing.

Level two:

  1. Add in movement and or speed. With uke taking more realistic, faster forward steps but still working in unison with their partner.
